PRANA Series: 1500V DC Automotive-Grade Hardware Intelligence

BMS Hardware|
Overview

Sub-millisecond cell safety for 1500V high-voltage storage

PRANA BMS is Powertrace’s proprietary high-voltage battery management system, designed and coded in India for mission-critical utility and industrial applications. PRANA provides continuous monitoring of cell voltages (±1 mV accuracy), temperatures, and electrochemical impedance.

With active cell balancing to prevent capacity loss and dual-MCU galvanic isolation, PRANA ensures maximum usable battery lifespan past 6,000 cycles.

BMU
Battery Module Unit

Sits on every module: reads each cell's voltage and temperature and balances the cells.

BCMU
Battery Cluster Management Unit

Coordinates the modules in a string, measures string current and insulation, and drives its contactors.

BMS
System Master

Aggregates every cluster into one system view and reports SoC, SoH and alarms to the VYOM EMS.

PRANA Master-Slave Topology: Supports up to 24 battery modules per string with multi-string master controller coordination.

State of charge

Accurate where LFP is hardest to read

PRANA's adaptive EKF holds its state-of-charge estimate within ±2% through a full dynamic cycle, including the flat voltage region where common methods drift or guess.

The board behind the estimate

PRANA's state-of-charge algorithm runs on hardware our team designs, from layout to firmware.

1
Cell sense connector
16 cell-voltage taps (C1–C16) and two temperature inputs (TEMP1, TEMP2).
2
Analog Front End (AFE)
Monitors individual cell voltages, measures module temperatures, and executes cell balancing and fault protection.
3
Balancing switches
One switch per cell (Q1–Q16) to bleed charge from fuller cells.
4
Balancing resistors
Dissipate the excess charge so all cells stay level.
5
Communication ports
Link the board to the rest of the battery system.

Active vs Passive Balancing Capabilities

How PRANA prevents thermal runaways and extends pack life past 6,000 cycles.

01

Active Balancing (Bidirectional)

Transfers energy from higher-charged cells to lower-charged cells during charging and discharging with up to 5A balancing current, minimizing heat generation.

02

State-of-Health (SoH) Estimation

Electrochemical model-based Kalman filtering tracks cell impedance degradation and capacity fade to alert operators before failure occurs.

03

Real-Time Insulation Monitoring

A dedicated analog front end measures insulation resistance (IR) continuously while the system runs, catching degrading isolation before it becomes a ground fault.

Automotive & utility compliance

Certified Compliance & Multi-Tier Safety
